Where Is a Moil Point Tool Used?

Moil point tools are made for loosely bound or easily separable materials. Their slender, tapered profile allows pinpoint tip placement, so each impact drives the tool into the material without deflection, with less chatter and slippage.

  • Primary demolition
  • Primary breaking
  • Trenching
  • Scaling
  • Recycling

According to the material table in our manual, it is recommended for non-reinforced concrete slabs, walls and foundations, and for lightly fractured or massive sedimentary rock (limestone, sandstone).

The standard tool is made for general demolition, construction and quarry work. In very hard and abrasive rock the hard rock version, and in dusty conditions the dust grooved version, lasts longer.

Correct Use: Three Rules

  • Work perpendicular. Keep the breaker at a right angle to the surface and avoid side loads. Angled pushing wears the bushings and moves the piston off the tool axis.
  • Do not pry. Rocking the tool like a lever before it is fully seated, or rotating the breaker while the tool is embedded, is the most common cause of tool breakage.
  • Do not blank fire. If the breaker strikes without the tool touching the surface, all the energy goes into the retaining pins and the tool's pin slots; pins break and slots are destroyed.

Breakage caused by ignoring these rules is not covered by the warranty. See our tool selection guide, the tool use section and the Tool User Manual and Warranty Terms.

A: The Teledyne TB275 moil point tool is made for the Teledyne TB275 hydraulic breaker: diameter 64 mm, overall length 640 mm, weight 18 kg. Just state your breaker brand and model when you order.

Q: Will another tool with the same diameter and length fit my Teledyne TB275?

A: Not always. The position and shape of the retaining pin slot change with brand and model; a tool with the same diameter and length may not fit. This tool is made to the slot dimensions of the Teledyne TB275.

Q: What is the Teledyne TB275 moil point tool used for?

A: The Teledyne TB275 moil point tool is mainly used for: primary demolition, primary breaking, trenching, scaling, recycling. According to the material table in our manual, it is recommended for non-reinforced concrete slabs, walls and foundations, and for lightly fractured or massive sedimentary rock (limestone, sandstone).

Q: What is the difference between Teledyne TB275 standard, dust grooved and hard rock moil point tools?

A: The standard tool is for general demolition and construction. On the dust grooved tool the grooves guide dust away from the breaking zone and reduce wear and heat. The hard rock tool is made from a high-nickel alloy with a special hardening process, for quarrying and mining.

Q: Which other tool types are available for the Teledyne TB275?

A: We make 14 different tools for the Teledyne TB275: moil point tools, chisel tools, pyramid tools, blunt tools, with dust grooved and hard rock options. You can reach all of them from the Other Tool Types table on this page.

Q: How long is the delivery time for the Teledyne TB275 moil point tool?

A: If the Teledyne TB275 moil point tool is in stock, it ships quickly. If not, it is made in 5 working days; transport time is added depending on the shipping method.

Q: Is the Teledyne TB275 moil point tool covered by warranty?

A: Like all HKM breaker tools, the Teledyne TB275 moil point tool is warranted against manufacturing defects only. The fracture surface is examined; if the fracture started from a flaw inside the material, the tool is covered. Breakage from prying, blank firing, rotating the embedded tool or working with worn bushings is not covered.

Q: What shortens the life of the Teledyne TB275 moil point tool the most?

A: Prying before the tool is fully seated, blank firing, striking one spot for too long, insufficient or wrong grease, and working with worn bushings.

Q: What else should I check when I change the tool on my Teledyne TB275?

A: Compare the inner diameters of the lower and upper bushings and the thrust bushing surface with the tolerances in your breaker's service manual. Worn bushings move the tool and piston off axis. The Teledyne TB275 bushings are listed in the Spare Parts section on this page.

Q: What other names is the Teledyne TB275 moil point tool known by?

A: It is also called “moil”, “moil point”, “moil tool”. Breaker tools in general are also known as breaker chisels, working tools or hammer tools.
