How to Extend Drum Cutter Pick Life? Rotation Method

The dozens of small sharp picks on Drum Cutters work by "gnawing" at concrete and rock. These picks are consumables, but their life can be extended by 50% with correct usage.

1. Rotation Method

Since picks usually work facing one direction, only one side wears out (one side of the diamond flattens). Instead of throwing them away, do this:

• Rotate: Loosen the picks in their holders and turn them 90 or 180 degrees. Thus, the unworn side of the diamond starts cutting.
• Check: Ensure picks can rotate freely in their holders. If they get stuck (don't rotate), they wear on one side and finish quickly.

2. Snap Ring Check

The snap rings holding the picks loosen over time. If the ring falls off, the pick flies out, and the main drum body rubs against the rock, causing damage. Body repair is expensive, so renew snap rings with every pick change.
